Early last week DDOT began the planned installation of the R Street sharrow and contra flow bike lane. The majority of the sharrow markings have been installed from R & Florida Ave NW heading East towards the MBT. The contra flow portion has been momentarily put on hold because of residents in opposition of their cars being bumped out to accommodate the lane. DDOT will be holding a meeting this afternoon to discuss the lane, truck traffic issues and the loss of two parking spaces needed for the P6 bus stop. The meeting will be on the 200 block of R Street NE at 2:30pm today. Let me know if you have any questions.
As a rider of the P6 bus, I find the bike lanes on R Street bad for the buses to try to navigate through. Can an alternate bike route be proposed and used? You can even change the bus route if you have too. That might help. Too many bikes and buses just don't mix well.
