Eckington Safety Walk Tonight Monday, May 21

Hello Neighbors,

Please join us tomorrow evening for a Safety Walk at 7pm starting from the Harry Thomas Recreation Center!

Consider these benefits of walking as a group:
  • Get to know your neighbors and the MPD officers!!!!
  • Exercise for an hour!
  • Explore different areas of Eckington

Tomorrow, we'll walk around the following areas:

S and Seaton near 2nd and 3rd street, and  W St. between 3rd and 4th!

I know that as a result of the walks, I've met new friends and know the officers by name!

Tell your neighbors, bring a friend!  Kids and pets are welcome too!

Thanks!

Recent Shooting on T St Closed With Arrest

SHOOTING IN FRONT OF MCKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED WITH ARREST!!!!

On Friday, February 4, 2011, at approximately 1600 hours, a male juvenile subject was traveling in the 300 block of T Street NE when a male suspect exchanged words with him and then fired several rounds in his direction.  The victim was subsequently struck in the leg and treated at an area hospital.  This shooting was not school related, neither the victim nor suspect are students.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at approximately 2030 hrs, Fifth District Vice officers received information that the suspect was in the area of T Street NE , they responded and arrested the suspect after conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle they observed him occupying.  A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a 9mm handgun with an extended clip.   Once arrested the respondent was debriefed by Det. Fultz, and charged with the February 4th shooting!!

Shooting Near McKinley Tech

A teenage boy was shot Friday around 4pm near McKinley Tech on T Street. The victim sustained non-life threating injuries. At the time I arrived on the scene it was unclear if the teen was a student of McKinley or not. MPD has been working some solid leads in the case and hopefully they can identify and arrest a suspect soon.

If residents have any information regarding this incident do not hesitate to contact MPD.
